I Take The 5th is a simple Theme and Variation style of composition written in the key of A minor. The overall simplicity of the composition is what makes it unique. Although the parts are variants of a basic theme, the combination produces a subtle underlying counter melody which was not something that I'd expected as I was in the process of composing this work. The counter melody is a pleasantly impressive surprise, even to me. The title is derived from the progressions within the composition. This work follows a simple descending 5th chord progression. It is soothing, relaxing, and yet stimulating at the same time.
