One of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most famous numbers from "The Pirates of Penzance", here arranged for unaccompanied vocal quartet.
The Major-General (tenor) is a "patter" role and can mostly be half-spoken. It should also be almost over-acted. Breath marks are indicated in the most usual places to pause, but others can be added. Also in every verse there is a moment where the Major-General searches for (increasingly improbable) rhymes and this should also be played on in the silent pauses.
