Piano accompaniment to hymn "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty" with introduction, modulation to higher key for final verse, and ending flourish.
This arrangement slightly alters some of the traditional harmonization to freshen this well-known tune just a bit. It should work well with congregation or a soloist singing the melody line, and can also be used as a short piano solo.
Some "duplets" (two notes spread evenly over three beats) are featured in the introduction, modulation, and ending. These are notated as quarter-eighth and eighth-quarter tied notes - see the bass line in the first three measures as an example, and listen to the sample mp3 if you're unsure how this should sound. The intent of this is to add interest and create a grandiose foundation to the 3/4 time signature. If you find these too difficult to play cleanly, it's fine to substitute a half-note followed by a quarter note for any of the duplets.
If you are able, it's also fine to play the single-note left hand sections as octaves. One effective approach may be to play the first and last verse with left-hand octaves and the middle verses as single notes. It's often an effective technique to add subtle variations such as this to each verse.
