Huron Tale, A Northern Monologue stems from an actual event in Thunder Bay. Singer Barbara Wester encountered a crow hanging by a strand of fish line, hooked in the back on the shores of Lake Superior. She managed to reach him without drowning, took him down, and he spent a half hour in her lap in erudite conversation with her before returning to his people. Following the surreal experience came a reading of the complete Hiawatha on the shores of Gitchi-Gumi. Huron Tale is the second of the "Songs of the Ancients" for middle or high voice.
