I wrote this tune in 1996 and gave it the title of "Homecoming Hymn" with no words in mind. I asked my wife Glenys to write some suitable words. She did, and what beautiful and appropriate words they are! (See associated scores for a Vocal Lead Sheet). A piano part is also available separately as well, which is not on the score…

This is a fairly straightforward arrangement for concert band of my original tune and could also be used to accompany a solo voice or congregational singing…..

The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer.

Grade = 3 Duration = 2:38 mins.

Homecoming Hymn words:

My dear God and loving Father I was a sinner far from your side I was not able to see my downfall But You in Your love You called me home.

My life was a misery then I left You out of my every plan I could not see where I should be going But You in Your love You called me home.

Now I am close to your side God I am forgiven through your dear Son I want to serve you And praise your name now For You in Your love You called me home.

And Father, as my life slips by I know that You Lord Will always care “I’ll not forsake you” Is what you promised I know one day Lord You’ll take me home.
