HIBIKI is composed for solo Flute and Chamber Ensemble, and is based on strong Japanese spirits. HIBIKI mean sound, which is especially in this piece, it is tried to tell such a strong Japanese emotion to audience. This solo Flute part is imitated Japanese traditional instrument that is called Shakuhachi and is made by bamboo. This traditional instrument is normally has 5 or 6 holes and performer produces many amazing sounds by swinging/moving instrument and also using mouth a lot. Especially the Shakuhachi has many kind of special styles of playing, which is expressed by using lots of portamento and glissando. This piece has three sections, first is image of bamboo grove, the sounds occur vertically by the Shakuhachi as the way a tree grows. Second section is based on ostinato by each instrument, which is imitated the sounds of Buddhist Chant. These are gradually piled up, it is really like in the Temple which is many priest are reciting a sutra. The sounds are repeated many times as same tempo again and again. Third section is recollection of first section, but the sounds are much soft and stable, the hibiki is sounding in the air of evening.
