Title: Happy who like Ulysses… Translation (AJ):

"Happy the one who like Ulysses has accomplished a long voyage, Or like the one who conquered the Golden Fleece, And then has returned full of learnings and wisdom, To live with his own kin the rest of his days.

When shall I see, alas, from my little village The chimney smoking, and in which season Shall I see the fence of my little house, Which is for me a kingdom and even far more?

More pleases me the abode built by my forefathers Than the audacious façade of Roman Palaces, More than the hard marble pleases me the fine slate;

More my Gallic Loire than the Latin Tiber; More my small Liré than Mount Palatine, And more than sea air the Angevine mellowness."
