"Hawkshead" is a lovely village in the English Lake District. It's ancient parish church stands on a small hilltop overlooking the town. I composed the tune "Hawkshead" on 21st May 2007 and it is in celebration of many happy days spent in or near Hawkshead.

The score is for a quartet comprising 2 cornets; a baritone and a euphonium. After Hawkshead comes Mozart's lovely tune which has become the hymn "Nottingham." Finally, there is John Hughes' stirring hymn "Cwm Rhondda." John Hughes lived from 1873 to 1932 and wrote many fine tunes all of which are redolent of his native Wales.

Quartet playing is highly recommended for aspiring brass musicians since it develops good sound; the ability to play together as an ensemble and the ability to listen to eachother.
