You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. The great critic and wag (and spy), Henry Pleasants (1911-2000) called this style of music "sewing-machine music." That’s a fine description, but when, in 2002, Sibelius Music composer Tony Matthews called for variations on the American song, "Happy Birthday to You," I churned out a slew of variations, including one in the style of Haydn.
It’s a good thing nothing ever came of those variations, because I later learned that "Happy Birthday to You" is still under copyright, and the entertainment industry is going ape over copyrights. But I decided to salvage my little piece, after carefully changing it not to resemble the copyrighted song, and I hope that it can serve at some festive occasion.
The solo part is for harp, but it could just as easily serve as a vehicle for a young pianist.
