"Great Day of Resurrection" is a festive hymn concertato for Easter services in churches that follow the traditional, formal service paradigm. I consider it to be near the top of the moderate difficulty range. While it is not as demanding as its companion work, "Day of Peace and Gladness" (see last paragraph below), it is not intended for groups more accustomed to performing unison or two-part pieces with simplistic keyboard accompaniments.

I "wrote" the work in its original form while walking along Commonwealth Avenue, in Boston (see picture, this page), in 1998 - hence the title of the hymn tune, which I offer as a new alternative to "Lancashire."* Between late 1998 and early 2005, I made a series of small revisions, mainly in the brass parts.

"Great Day of Resurrection," as its subtitle indicates, is envisioned as an Introit and can be paired with "Day of Peace and Gladness" (tunes: "Park Lane" and "Oxford Street"),with the latter, which also is at this site, acting as Offertory or main anthem.

  • "Lancashire" is a commonly used setting of "Great Day of Resurrection." It probably is better known as the setting of "Lead On, O King Eternal!" which I have set to my tune "Polperro" and posted to this site.
