James Sylvester Scott (1885 – 1938) was one of the three key composers of ragtime music along with Joplin and Lamb. This delightful rag from 1909 is one of Scott’s best-known piano pieces. The transcription works extremely well for woodwind quintet.
To preserve the restrained and cultured character of the piece, care must be taken to not play too quickly or exaggerate the dynamics.
