It should work well with a choir or congregational singing the traditional words. There is also version in the lower key of F Major at this website.
[I decided to arrange all the Christmas carols for my concert band after many years of playing the same verse arrangement 4 or 5 times always with the flute, clarinet and trumpet having the melody!]
