The "Polovtsian Dances" or "Polovetsian Dances" are perhaps the best known selections from Alexandra P. Borodin's opera "Prince Igor".

There has been many adaptations of the "Gliding Dance of the Maidens" or simply "Girl's Dance". In the 1950's it was known as the song "Strangers In Paradise" in the musical "Kismet". Back in 1940 Artie Shaw, a fantastic jazz clarinetist, recorded "My Fantasy" which has the tune almost identical to this dance.

This arrangement is intended as a "1st Solo with Orchestra", for youngsters to get a feel of soloing, and should also be of no difficulty for the string accompaniment.

It can be performed without the piano part, which coincidently can be used as a condensed score.
