The "Polovtsian Dances" are perhaps the best known selections of Alexandra P. Borodin's opers "Prince Igor".
This particular dance, "Gliding Dance of the Maidens", or simply "Girls Dance", has been adapted many times. In 1953 it was known as the popular song "Stranger In Paradise" from the musical "Kismet". In 1940 Artie Shaw, a fantastic jazz clarinetist, recorded "My Fantasy", which has a tune almost identical to this dance.
Also arraanged as a Flute solo with String Orchestra accompaniment, please see my homepage.
