"Polovtsian Dances" or "Polovetsian Dances" are perhaps the best known selections fro Alexandra P. Borodin's opera "Prince Igor".

This particular dance "Girl's Dance" or "Gliding Dance of the Maidens" has been adapted many times. It was known as "Stranger In Paradise" in the 1950's musical "Kismet". In 1940, Artie Shaw, a fantastic jazz clarinetist, recorded "My Fantasy" which has a tune almost identical to this dance.

This arrangement was done as a "1st Solo with Orchestra", for youngsters to get a feel of soloing, and should not also prove difficult for either the soloist or the string accompaniment.

It can be performed with or without the piano, which coincidently can be used as a condensed score.
