The Genevan Psalter is a metrical psalter in French, created under the supervision of John Calvin for liturgical use by the Reformed churches of the city of Geneva in the sixteenth century (Wikipedia). It was first published in 1539 and other editions followed, adding to the number of psalm tunes covered. The 1551 edition was published in Geneva and supervised by Louis Bourgeois. He probably wrote most of the new tunes, which included the present melody for Psalm 42. The 1551 Psalter also saw the appearance of the tune now known as "The Old Hundredth", nowadays set to the words "All people that on earth do dwell".
