Genesis was initially a shorter work for solo piano. It was written as a musical interpretation of rain. When I decided to transcribe it for a larger ensemble, my plans were to lengthen the piece considerably, and create a musical portrayal of a rainstorm. After much work and reflection, I realized that it’s not necessarily the weather itself inspiring the work, but instead my personal reaction to it, and the emotions that such a powerful act of nature can evoke. Genesis is one’s inner rainstorm, representing strife and the act of overcoming it.
