It calls for a full Berlioz orchestra, including four bassoons, both trumpets and valved cornets, six field drums and a wordless chorus. The march was never performed during the composer’s lifetime, and now survives as the best-known part of his tryptich Tristia. Berlioz’s score calls for a rifle volley, which I’ve left out on the assumption that most bands don’t have a rifle section. If you do, by all means turn them loose in measure 85. While six field drums may be overkill, using 2-3 would be good to create the sound of a section.
