This Fugato has been composed on the theme from the XXIInd Prelude by J.-S. BACH (Well Tempered Harpsichord, Book I). In the meantime, the Fugato is based on the Chorale « Ach wie flüchtig, ach wie nichtig » by Michael FRANCK (1652) and J.-S. BACH (excerpt from Cantata 26 « Ach wie flüchtig »).
Violins I-II and Violas are developing the fuga acording to usual subject / answer / imitative and canonic processes. Cellos and Basses are playing successively the whole periods of the Chorale.
The Fugato ends on the last period �" Maggiore �" played by the whole strings in imitative structure.
