Paul Burnell
Composed 2000
For amplified piano with echo effect
Duration 4:45
The piano should be amplified and the sound output processed with a delay/echo effect (four repeats) spaced at the quaver. At crotchet = 126bpm this is equivalent to a delay of 230 milliseconds. Each echo should be slightly quieter than the last but clearly distinct.
The performer/sound engineer should feel free to experiment with the spatial location of the original amplified sound and each delay. However, sounds should not be spaced in any way that fragments the combined rhythmic 'flow'.
The piece may be played on an electronic keyboard instrument, and the left hand part may be played/doubled with a bass sound such as electric bass guitar.
Programme note:
'Frayed End' was composed by Paul Burnell in 2000. It is for amplified piano with an echo effect. A recorded version of the piece appears on the album 'Leaving the Party on Pluto'.
