'Foxy Business' was written for a close friend's 30th birthday, and was inspired by his deep admiration for the playful, sometimes skittish animal that is the Red Fox.
It is a show-piece for String Quartet - ideal as a concert piece in its own right or as a perfect encore. The music is heavily syncopated between all four parts and builds up from the opening F# - G - Eb motif into a foot-tapping tune dominated by the original rhythmic idea. A lyrical middle section in triple time against a quasi-duple accompaniment breaks the piece up nicely, with all the main ideas coming together into a gradually accelerating race for the finish and exciting climax!
