Four Minute Warning is a little tone poem for Jazz Orchestra. You may like to guess at the significance of the duration of four minutes and what they presage, But I'll give you a clue. At the height of the Cold War, with threats of MAD (Mutually assured destruction) it was reckoned that recipients of an atomic attack would have around four minutes warning to get ready. So the intention is to create a relentless drive towards the unknown!with a hint of warning. The piece is scored for a small Jazz Orchestra of ten players - the ten-piece line up favoured by the early hot dance orchestras of the late 1920's.
