This is the second variation of a set originally written for a specific recital. The idea of putting the theme at the end was to give the audience some fun in trying to identify the well know tune! There are a few "red herrings" thrown in along the way. They are also vague parodies on rough styles of music, and this makes them quite suitable for performance as separate pieces. The first movement is in a baroque style, while this is vaguely classical.
