The Finale - Reel and Jigg is meant to act as a counterpoise to the more severe first movement: loosely based on any number of Celtic reels (the piece also makes a passing tribute to the Swedish polska) is starts gently enough but disintegrates, motivically and texturally, bit by bit, changing metre as it gets wilder and wilder, going along. Some material from the first movement is reprised with a variation of the reel on top.
A piano reduction of the orcherstral score may appear in due course: unusually, for the composer, the full-score emerged directly from pencilled sketches as opposed to particell.
