Monterey Square In 1847, the Irish Jasper Greens, a Savannah military group, returned from the Mexican war and this name (Monterey) was given to honor one of the battles in that war. Located on this square is Mercer House. A much-publicized 1981 murder that took place in Mercer House is the subject of the book and film, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and was as well the impetus for this hauntingly somber selection of music.
