A band transcription of the flashy finale to a little-known oboe concerto, by Kalliowda (1801-1866). He was a German violinsit and conductor who wrote numerous virtuosic showpieces for both strings and woodwinds. The original version is for solo oboe and orchestra. Though the solo part is obviously of professional difficulty, the band parts are easy-to-moderate. Except for a few of the woodwind runs, it is suitable for even a talented middle school band. Excellent for oboists looking to solo with a band who want more impressive pieces to choose from. I apologize for not preparing a solo oboe part yet - it is available from other publishers with a piano reduction.
For those who have been commenting that the solo part was muted, that is because it would have taken a large amount of editing to get it to sound even close to accurate. Instead, I have added an MP3 of me playing along with the computer. I hope this gives you a better idea of what the piece sounds like, and that you will forgive the small imperfections in the recording - I threw it together in an hour or less.
