This is the second in a series of short pieces for solo piano, composed for, and dedicated to, members of Vic Carnall's family, his friends, and his piano-playing acquaintances. / The title? Fenton - the composer's home town; Opal - the name of the road where he now resides. / This particular work was written for two of Vic's long-standing friends, Colin Duckworth and Jean Fry-Smith, both of whom are keen players (piano/organ) and listeners. / The two "Valse lente" sections of the composition feature the dedicatees' initials, CLD and JFS, musically encoded to give the notes CED (in the left hand) and CFE (in the right hand). / Please do NOT play this work in strict tempo…"Molto espressivo" and "Poco rubato", throughout the piece, should prove to be most effective.
