I'm a huge fan of Gerald Finzi, in particular his Ecolgue for Piano and Orchestra. I think there's definitely an influence on this piece. Much of the post WW1 English music had a beautiful melancholy, often with an unsettling harmonic language, so evocative of a nation traumatised by the events of 1914 to 1918. The Fantasia is essentially 2 movements with a third yet to be written.
