This short Fanfare was written in 1977, the year of the Silver Jubilee, and was played as a preface to the National Anthem, when I was conducting a pit orchestra for a production of ’Show Boat’ at the former ’Palace Theatre’ in Plymouth, for the former Carmenians Amateur Operatic Society. Originally it was scored as a quartet, as the pit orchestra did not have a tuba. The snare drum and cymbal parts were played in the original pit performance before curtain-up, but are, of course, optional.
This, or the Mix ’n Match arrangement, availably separately on Score Exchange, for brass ensemble, percussion and organ, could possibly provide a regal opening to any ceremony, church service or brass concert - or just a short ceremonial fanfare!
