Originally, a solo piece - Adagio - from a voluntary composed for pipe organ. The composer is listed as John Bennett (1735-1784.
The piece is a gorgeous work written for organ manuals. When I performed it, I heard it as a piece that would work in a more expansive, grand, eloquent setting. Hence, an arrangement for string ensemble was born. Though quite short in duration, the piece conveys a deep feeling of solemnity and a sense of absolute repose. It is well-suited for memorial services honoring brave soldiers, first responders, nurses, doctors, health care works and those fallen heroes who had served the people and the nation well and gave their best effort to a noble cause. This is a memorial appreciation of their heroic actions, activities done in the service of humanity.
