No matter how transparent we believe ourselves to be, the truth is that none
of us are capable of presenting the entirety of ourselves to anyone else. As we
interact with others in our daily lives those people only see a single facet of
our personalities. Sometimes we show this limited version of who we are deliberately,
and other times it is a result of subconscious constraints we have placed on ourselves, or
of the overwhelming complexity involved in expressing our entire beings in any one event.
Regardless, the entirety of inner selves is only very rarely seen by anyone else.
This piece is a reflection of the cognitive dissonance involved in the act focusing
one's inner self into a single superficial facet for the sake of casual interaction despite that
facet's being intertwined with, and dependent upon, a much greater complex psychology. It
also attempts to express the difficulty in amassing the emotional energy needed to transition
from one of these facets to another, and the anxiety inherent in an inner self that is seen only
in such a superficial manner.
