My second piece for band. The first 45 seconds came quickly and easily. The middle section was much more of a struggle, and I�m very pleased with how it came out �" pretty harmonies, nifty conversion of background rhythm to melody rhythm. The working title, during the first 45 seconds, was �Angry Band Piece�. I changed that to the more dignified �Anger�, but really I�ve always been more fond of �Angry Band Piece.� However, the middle section really isn�t angry. I tried �Anger versus Beauty� (with Anger winning at the end), and eventually thought of �Extinction�. The species is born into chaos, has a brief and sometimes beautiful run, then dies out screaming in protest. As we all do.
