Commissioned by a Texas high school wind ensemble to feature its percussion section at a TMEA All-State Conference, Expansions requires fairly complete instrumentation, as well as six versatile percussionists moving around a variety of instruments.
Using chord clusters and mild aleatoric effects, it develops–or "expands" on–two short motifs, starting quietly and gradually building to a frenzied conclusion.
