Evocation of the Night is an expansion of my string orchestra work, Lamentation for Tomorrow, written earlier this year. While not strictly program music, it reflects the sentiments contained in the poem which speaks of a peaceful summer night where our thoughts can ponder what lies ahead.
This work requires extreme care to play well. The dissonances need very accurate tuning, and the dynamics require considerable control to form the phrases. Balance between voices is critical. The tempo must not be rushed.
Note that the tick (√) represents a breath or bow lift taken from the previous note without interrupting the tempo. The comma is used when the break adds a small amount of time to the bar.
This work is also available for SATB chorus and piano or strings.
