"Evening Bells" was written at the request of Jim Little, who wanted an Eb Bass solo (with Brass band) and particularly requested this traditional Russian melody as its basis. The tune is very short, just 8 bars in 2/4 time, so there is a lot of original material as well! The Eb Bass demonstrates its lyrical abilities throughout, whilst there are various "bell" effects in the band which has an important part for glockenspiel.
