This is called Ertsym because it is a mystery that it turned around as it did (crossword lovers will love this introduction!). The piece is my first attempt at writing for a traditional string quartet, and shows what happens when a jazz musician uses those wierd scales for classical interpretation. Some of the chords sound strange set against a classical context, but bear with it; listen again - it works.
