Back in 2005 I arranged the German anthem for a Heurich House event in Washington, D. C. With this arrangement, I finally used the original source: the Poco adagio movement from Haydn’s Op. 76, No. 3 string quartet. Written as a theme and 4 variations, this later became the German anthem. For those of you preparing for Octoberfest, I say, "friends don't let friends drink Bud Light!" Buy an all-malt beer instead, whether American or German, like the Heurichs used to brew.
