Emendemus in melius (SAATTB) is taken from the Concerti of Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli (1587). one of the Responds on the first Sunday in Lent and is thus of a penitential character - the reader may well be familiar with the equally expressive setting by William Byrd, also available on this site.
Let us change for the better where we have sinned in our ignorance, lest, surprised by the day of our death we seek time for repentance and find that there is none! Hear, O Lord, and have mercy, for we have sinned against thee.
