This is a programmatic composition in which I have attempted to capture the imagination and experience of a child’s dream. I would hope the events which take place during the dream will be left to the listener’s imagination but to provide a few pointers, the opening glockenspiel solo is representative of a music-box ‘lulling’ the child to sleep until figure A when the descending whole-tone passages suggest a gradual ‘sinking’ into deep sleep before the dream finally begins at figure B. The triangle in the penultimate bar denotes a 'bedside alarm' - waking the child up from his dream to a grand finish. Sweet Dreams!
