The student should listen and echo each phrase heard on the MP3 immediately (WITHOUT referring to the music!) The range is G, B, E - ie open strings to make it easy - and A is introduced towards the end to resolve the piece. The phrases get progressively more difficult. Echoing Notes can be used with reading or non-reading guitar players from lesson 1 onwards. I use it all the time to encourage listening with single students and groups from 2-30 children. You can also use Kodaly hand signals to great effect with classes.
