This work by the early German baroque composer Samuel Scheidt (1587-1654) comes from the set of organ/keyboard works collected in the Pars secunda tabulaturae continens fugarum, psalmorum, cantionum et echus, tocatae, variationes varias omnimodas pro quorumvis organistarum captu et modulo (Hamburg, 1624). This would make a nice opener to an antiphonal brass program – maybe you're doing the Gabrieli Canzona's or other antiphonal pieces on a concert and need something a little different – this would be it. I think this would sound amazing in a cathedral or reverberant space. Please e-mail me if you need alternate parts, say you want to substitute a horn part for a trombone part, I'll be happy to send it to you.
