Not much is known of the early history of The Earle of Oxford’s Marche before it was included in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book some time after 1610. This exuberant work has been transcribed for many combinations of instruments and is presented here for wind quintet.

The opening section is quite straightforward while the second half calls for some brilliant finger work. It sounds, however, much more difficult than it is as most of the passages fall easily under the fingers.
