This Irish Gaelic folksong tells of the age-old conflict between a protective father and a willful daughter. She wants to be married and asks her mother to help. The suitor has many admirable qualities but the father refuses. Throughout the song, they talk in code as if they were referring to the quality of seaweed; unfortunately, much is lost in translation.
I have endeavoured to provide a rough pronunciation guide for the Ulster dialect. Using this alone, you will not be mistaken for a native speaker but will approximate how someone might speak Gaelic with a (hopefully) charming English accent. Nothing can replace listening to good recordings to improve your pronunciation.
The accompanying computer recording is meant to give you an idea of the melody and harmony and not intended to be definitive.
