Sperger was quite a prolific composer who wrote at least forty-four symphonies, numerous instrumental concertos, among them are eighteen contrabass concertos.
He was a double bass player and a considerable amount of his output was of bass music or involved the bass.
This piece features the viola and bass with two optional horn parts (these have been transposed up an octave on the playback, sorry!)
