(Listen to the MP3 not Scorch)
A light-hearted diversion for Wind Quartet.
’Errant’ refers to the fact that throughout the piece, the instruments will either go off on a flight of fancy, leaving the others behind, or will go completely off harmony.
There is also a point when the ’needle gets stuck in the record’ and keeps replaying a phrase (followed by it jumping tracks completely and playing tunes from Mozart, Wagner, Verdi, Bizet, Rossini), and a point where the whole quartet ends up completely off key and has to gingerely try to find a suitable chord to return to the normal musical flow.
This piece was designed to benefit from some visual ’clowning around’ from the players.
