The words consist of portions of verses of the hymn, "Blessed are the Sons of God" written by Joseph Humphreys in 1743.
From the original 8 verse hymn are lines 1 through 5. The 6th line does not appear in the original hymn but was written prior to 1852. The author is unknown.
The music is written on one staff, coined "stafflet edition" (or stafflet). It is designed to be played with minimum time invested for maximum enjoyment.
