Cycnus (pronounced Chick-nus) was a hero of Troy who was transformed into a swan. In this piece the calm music at the start paints a picture of the swan swimming on a lake. The swan remembers the time when he was a warrior - the music becomes more violent as he recalls the Trojan War and his death. He remembers his transformation and the calm music of the start returns as the swan swims on.
