Not to confuse with the famous Op. 4 for trombone, written in 1837 for virtuoso trombonist Karl Traugott Queisser, Ferdinand David’s Concertino Op. 12 was primarily written for bassoon. However, as Op. 4 could be performed on bassoon or cello, this concertino has been performed on the viola and cello and is perfectly practical to play on the trombone. A nice addition to the trombone solo repertoire, one can find musical materials which are similar to that of Op.4 but with a different form and organisation.
