There are now several versions of this work so it is worth looking at the "Related scores" above in case there is a more suitable orchestration for your ensemble.
Band music for young or less-experienced musicians tends to give the most interesting parts to the cornets, horns or euphoniums. To keep my own bass section happy I came up with this Concert Overture. After a bell-like figure, the trombones and basses play the main tune while the cornets play the backing figures. This overture has proved popular with both players and audiences. If you find this piece works well with your ensemble please let the composer know. Thank you in anticipation.
