Come By The Hills is a Scottish Folk Tune that I have arranged for an ensemble built around an SATB choir. This was a compositional exercise exploring the technique of using different textures and layers to evoke and underline the meaning of text and style. As you can see here, I’ve used several different textures to support the melodic lines, including a solo classical guitar, string quintet, and piano, as well as tin flute and bagpipe solos.
Although my compositional intention is always for my works to eventually performed, this piece was more of an experiment. If you are interested in a transcription for a more common ensemble, arrangements can be made. Please contact me via email (ryanwjuhl@gmail.com).
